Out the back.
A photo series that probably won't happen.
I had an idea this morning, as I was thinking about a photo I took recently on a whim behind the Crown and Sceptre. It's the photo featured here, above the title. It's the back/service entrance of the pub and it looked grimy, functional, and beautiful all at the same time. And sort of forgotten, too, with everyone long since strolled home. It had a similar feel to southern Italy in the early morning - a place and time that I would love to visit more often.
This morning I set off on my biike, camera and light meter packed, ready to take photos of all the pub out-the-backs I could find. Stop 1 was the Crown and Sceptre because I knew it would be good. The light would be right. Next stop was The Union - a complete bust. There were some kegs sitting by a multi-storey carpark - not really what I had imagined. Grace Emily. Nothing. The Ed Castle. Some colourful downpipes, but no vantage point and not useful for the black and white series I was imagining. World End/West Oak. Nothing. Rosemont. Nothing. Crown and Anchor. Nothing. Austral. Nothing. Exeter. Not quite what I was after.
So, I've mostly given up. It certainly won't be a series of Adelaide CBD out-the-back photos all taken in one morning cruising about on my bike. Maybe it will have a to be a larger circle. All of South Australia maybe.
